MUSINGS AND RUMINATIONS.....

"Even the articulate or brutal sounds of the globe must be all so many languages
and ciphers that all have their corresponding keys - have their own grammar and syntax ;
and thus the least things in the universe must be secret mirrors to the greatest."

Thomas De Quincey

"After three thousand years of explosion, by means of fragmentary and mechanical
technologies, the Western world is imploding. During the mechanical ages we had
extended our bodies in space. Today, after more than a century of electric
technology, we have extended our central nervous system itself in a global
embrace, abolishing both space and time as far as our planet is concerned.
Rapidly, we approach the final phase of the extensions of man - the technological
simulation of consciousness, when the creative process of knowing will be
collectively and corporately extended to the whole of human society, much as we
have already extended our senses and our nerves by the various media."

Marshall McLuhan - Understanding Media (1964)

"When you return to this mundane sphere from your visionary world, you would seem to leave a
Neapolitan spring for a Lapland winter - to quit paradise for earth - heaven for hell !
Taste the hashish, guest of mine - taste the hashish !"

Alexander Dumas, 'The Count of Monte Cristo', 1844

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench,
a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free,
and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

Hunter S. Thompson

'Stairs to the Midnight City' is an evolving online audio-visual structure scheduled for completion in late 2009.

A large scale work in 4 acts, the piece spans live & improvised structures, electro-acoustic and studio-based compositions,
and a chaotic plethora of contemporary forms, styles and techniques.

New music and media will be added to the site as the project grows and evolves.
The addition of new artists & collaborators to the project will highlight the diversity of forms and processes
of this ongoing conception.

Music is currently available to preview and purchase from the site as high quality WAV and MP4 audio files.
The 4 Acts will be available as individual MP4 albums - beginning early 2009.

A special DVD of Stairs to the Midnight City, including live performances and specially commissioned visual,
filmic and transmedia materials, will be prepared at the work's completion.
